FAQ

FAQ's

  • What to expect?

Counselling sessions are scheduled for 45-50 minutes in length. The frequency of sessions will be determined by both the clinician and client and will largely depend on the nature of the presenting problem(s).

The goal of our first session together is get to know one another. We really want to hear from you, your story in your words. In order to ensure that we understand your perspective and voice, we will spend the majority of the first visit listening to you, paying particular attention to your history and your current circumstances that have brought you to us.

Working collaboratively, we will discuss your goals for treatment, appropriate treatment modalities and realistic expectations.

  • How can therapy help me?

The therapeutic process can help individuals, couples and families gain insight into their mental health struggles and how to improve their situation. By making positive and sustainable changes, clients can experience improvements in healthy behaviors, relationships, emotional expression and thinking more effectively.

Because when we do better, we feel better.

  • What is confidentiality?

As registered Social Workers (RSW), we adhere to the Standards of Practice and Guidelines for Ethical Practice as outlined by the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW). Client confidentiality is a key value of our professional practice.

All information is gathered and collected while maintaining strict client confidentiality and privacy.  This includes any information provided during sessions to clinicians. The only limits to confidentiality are legal ones. Our full policy on confidentiality and its limits are outlined in greater detail in our “Consent to Treatment” form.

  • What if I miss my appointment?

Life happens. We understand that life is busy and that at times it may be difficult to keep scheduled appointments. We only ask that you provide 24-hour notice to reschedule or cancel any appointments. If an appointment is missed or cancelled with less than 24-hour notice, then a fee will be automatically charged.

  • Do you directly bill?

In Alberta, counselling services provided by a Master of Social Work (MSW) are covered by most insurance companies and private benefits programs. We provide detailed invoices that can be submitted for reimbursement.

In addition, we can directly bill a number of insurance companies.

*Please note that it is the client’s responsibility to ascertain insurance coverage.
