From the time we are born and to the moment we leave this Earth, our lives are a combination of highs, lows and everything in between. Navigating all of these experiences can be challenging and at times overwhelming. Added to this is the common belief that an ideal life is one free of distress and difficulties. We forget that life is a journey and rarely follows a straight path. There will be ups and downs. Therefore, a good life is not necessarily defined by the absence of stress or challenges, but, rather, our ability to overcome and manage them.

Using a person in environment lens, I try to help my clients do just that. From my perspective, our well-being is comprised of many different facets. Our individual physical, social, financial, and emotional health and histories all intersect to create our lived experience. Any approach to treat and maintain our mental health should address all of these elements.

My practice is based on a client centered and eclectic clinical approach where the client is always in the driver’s seat. Along with compassion, empathy and a little humor, I use a variety of therapeutic modalities. I am trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), solution focused, strengths based, mindfulness, and trauma informed practices. I also use a spiritually infused approach with the above modalities when appropriate and desired by my client. I am fluent in English, Urdu and Hindi. As a mental health therapist, my role is to guide and support you on your road to recovery. Keep in mind that recovery is not only the destination but the journey as well.

A little more about me. I was born and raised in Edmonton, AB. I grew up in a family where social justice and giving back to the community were key values. From an early age, I always knew I wanted to help others. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology (BA) from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (BSW) from the University of Calgary. After I completed my undergraduate education, I worked for Children Services for a number of years before deciding to focus on expanding and raising my young family. Once all of my children were school aged, I returned to the University of Calgary for my Masters in Social Work with Clinical Specialization (MSW). My main research focus was centered around providing cultural appropriate services to clients, with a particular emphasis on the Muslim community. I am registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (RSW) and I volunteer for a number of organizations in Edmonton.

Over the years I have worked with individuals, children/adolescents and families. My professional interests include immigrant and refugee mental health as well as incorporating cultural humility into any clinical practice. When I’m not working or volunteering, I love to bake and cook and I am an avid sports fan!

I look forward to working with you on your journey to revive your health and happiness.
